The marriage ceremony is the first and one of the most important holidays for a future family. Event taking place once in a life. And most lovers want to spend this day so that it is remembered for many years for both spouses and guests. If some beautiful warm country is indicated in the invitation postcard the venue of the celebration, the beginning of a successful holiday, we can assume, is supposed to! And if Greece turns out to be this place, fun and festive mood are guaranteed!
Any country has its own traditions of wedding organization. It is customary to celebrate the wedding in Greece until seven days. Preparatory actions are scheduled by the days of the week.
Wednesday – in the house of the bride they collect a dowry for the young.
Thursday – bake bread for a wedding, send invitations to guests. In the north of the country there is an additional custom: flour and pastries (“gift” from the groom) are brought to the bride home). Girls sprinkle a girlfriend with flour. The future spouse, in turn, refracts the pie, thereby showing subordination to her husband.
Saturday – the beginning of the feast. Things prepared by the bride’s family as a dowry are transported to the house to the groom. Then – a traditional visit to the bathhouse. Both young men and girl.
The groom on this day will have to fulfill another action – to stab the lamb to the feast.
Sunday – Wedding! Undoubtedly, the bride should look like a queen today. She is dressed up in festive clothes, combed. Unlike the tradition of usual for us, the Greek bride does not hide the dress from the groom to the wedding. On the contrary, the groom first sees and even buys a dress for his chosen one. And the day before the wedding sends her. The girl’s hair should be decorated with long gold threads. The face is closed by a pink tint veil. And the belt is tied with three knots. Moreover, the bride’s brother must necessarily tie it.
When the groom, surrounded by his friends, comes on this day to his future wife, a ransom ceremony is held. The groom’s retinue will not be bought – they will not let the bride. Will pay off… It is also not a fact that a young man will leave the house with a lover. The fact is that the bride’s girlfriends should steal the bride’s shoes brought by the groom before the leave of the young. Here the groom’s friend will try to buy shoes.
Even the happiest newlywed is obliged to hide her emotions. And during farewell to the house of the parents, and on the festive feast. The girl is removed into the part of the room specially designated for her, the so -called “corner of the bride”. And silently spends most of the holiday there.
Many rites are performed by newlyweds and in the house of the husband’s parents. It is advisable to hold gold coins in the mouth – a symbol of exceptionally peaceful words and conversations within the family.
The mother-in-law will meet with bread and salt, which will put on the threshold. And the young should step over the bread for the right foot. On the bed of young people, the children will be allowed to frolic over the first night. This is a sign that the family is awaiting replenishment.
And so, when all the wedding traditions are observed, the rites are fulfilled, the young can safely go to a new life, family. Be sure to be happy!
