Caves have always been interested in people who were attracted to the mystery of these underground voids. And today numerous excursions are sent to inspect the most famous caves. However, not everyone knows what is the difference between the grotto and the cave and often mix these concepts. So what is the cave?
The cave is a spatial cavity that is formed in the upper part of the earth’s crust. As a rule, the cave has one or more inputs. The largest caves are extremely confusing systems of underground corridors and strokes that can last for several kilometers. Various factors lead to the emergence of caves, including tectonic shifts.
However, most caves are karst, that is, they appeared under the influence of water. Otrut waters wash the cavities underground, most often this occurs in soft rocks consisting of limestone, chalk, dolomite or marble. Karst caves are the most deep and long.
Caves may also appear as a result of erosion of the earth’s crust and as a result of the action of volcanoes. The study of these underground formations is engaged in special science, which is called speleology. Applied speleology today is also a separate type of sports or ethnographic tourism.
Caves from the most ancient times served as a haven for man, it is known that Neanderthals lived in them. From that period on the walls of many caves there were rock drawings that have been perfectly preserved to this day. The caves also served as a shelter for the first Christians who even built their underground temples in them.

For the convenience of visitors, a beautiful backlight is arranged in the cave, and they can move along the corridors along special bridges and the transition. And what is the grotto? Grotto is one of the varieties of the cave. The grotto is called a horizontal underground cavity with a wide entrance. This is the so -called classic grotto. There is also a type of grotto with a narrow hole, having penetrated into which the speleologists fall into a large and spacious hall.
