The main industrial region was formed in the western part of Grand Bahama Island near the city of Freeport – a free trade zone (1955); specializes in the repair of sea vessels and containers (including TEU), the production of pharmaceuticals (enterprises of the American company “Sintex Corporation” and the British “GlaxoSmithKline”), beer, paper, etc.
On the island of New Providence – enterprises of the food industry (including the Bermudian company “Bacardi” – production of rum of the same name), textile and clothing industries. On the island of Great Abaco – a plant for the production of wood pulp of the American company “Owens-Illinois”.
Evaporation of rock salt from sea water on the islands of Great Inagua and Long Island (American companies “Diamond Crystal Salt Company” and “Morton Salt”) and the extraction of aragonite (calcium carbonate; over 1 thousand tons per year) near the island of Ocean Key (American company “Aragonite Enterprises”).
