The founder and former CEO of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, was brought to the United States on an extradition request. This was reported on December 21 by the Fox Business channel.
Bankman-Fried arrived in New York on December 21 at about 22:00 local time (6:00 Moscow time). He was brought from the Bahamas. The businessman himself agreed to extradition to the United States after he was detained by the authorities of the island state.
In his homeland, Bankman-Fried faces charges of financial fraud. He denies the charges against him.
The FTX cryptocurrency exchange declared bankruptcy on November 11. At the same time, it became known that Bankman-Fried resigned as CEO. The US prosecutor’s office began an investigation.
Against the backdrop of the events with FTX, all cryptocurrencies have noticeably dropped, and funds have begun to be withdrawn from exchanges. A representative of the US House Financial Services Committee noted that the fall of FTX caused huge damage to more than 1 million users.
On December 20, it became known that scammers began to use the bankruptcy of FTX for deception. Offers to withdraw blocked assets for a significant percentage appeared on the Darknet.
