A Bahamian whistleblower who exposed alleged corruption by a top police official in the Caribbean nation was shot while broadcasting live on Facebook
Sylvence Metayer had been broadcasting on social media for more than an hour complaining about living conditions in the United States when gunfire opened on his home in Hollywood, Florida, NBC Miami reported. The video showed at least seven shots being fired before Metayer fell to the floor, shot. “I got shot in the face, right here,” Metayer told the camera, grabbing his phone and walking into another room. A child could be heard crying in the background as the victim’s girlfriend spoke to a 911 dispatcher, saying Metayer had been shot and needed an ambulance.
The man showed off a gash on his left cheek and blood stains on his shorts on the live broadcast. “It looks like he got shot in the face, got hit in the leg, maybe in the back,” one officer said. Metayer was taken to a hospital where he received medical treatment. He is known in the Bahamas for commenting on conspiracy theories and corruption in the island nation. He recently spoke out against Royal Bahamas Police Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson, who allegedly arranged bribes with a wanted fugitive, the Miami Herald reported.
